FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

We’re Here For You

WHAT'S THE BENEFIT OF MOBILE ACUPUNCTURE?

Not everyone can get to a clinic. People are disabled, or in too much agony to leave their house. Some people are just too busy for a 20-60 minute drive to a clinic and back home again. Others like relaxing in bed, watching TV while they gently fall into an acupuncture induced nap (if you have never had one, then you should schedule ASAP). After your needles are removed, you won’t ruin your relaxation by jumping back into traffic. Instead, you continue to relax in the comfort of your home, leaving the hustle and bustle of life behind.

WHAT AREAS OF AUSTIN DO YOU SERVICE?

I service Central Austin, South Austin, Southwest Austin, Dripping Springs and Lakeway communities.  Reach out to me if you live outside that area and I'll let you know if I can make it work.

DO YOU TAKE INSURANCE?

I do not take insurance at this time.  I accept cash, check, credit card, venmo, paypal and zelle.

WHAT DO YOU NEED FROM ME?

A quiet space, away from interruptions, table linens and a pillow (if you'd like one).  I will bring a massage table and everything else. Get ready to relax, refocus and revitalize.

WHAT SHOULD I WEAR?

Comfortable & loose fitting clothing.  Normally I will only needle in the areas from your elbows to your hands and from your knees to feet, but depending on your symptoms, I may needle your back and torso areas.

WHAT SHOULD I FEEL DURING THE TREATMENT?

WILL THE NEEDLES HURT?

Expect to enjoy it! Most people are pleasantly surprised by the experience of an acupuncture treatment. Treatment produces a profound level of relaxation in most people and many patients enjoy a restful nap while on the table. Afterwards, most report a calm feeling of vitality and an improved ongoing sense of well-being.

At the time the needle is inserted, some may feel soreness or a slight sting. Others may feel nothing. Common qi sensations around the needle include tingling, electrical sensations that may travel above or below the needle, or a sense of swelling at the insertion site. Stimulation of needles can be done manually, or by attaching electrodes that transmit a weak current. Some people are energized by treatment, while others feel relaxed.

It is important to seek treatment from a qualified acupuncture practitioner to ensure proper needle placement and stimulation. In any case, if you experience discomfort during or after the treatment, it is usually mild and short term. Because the purpose of acupuncture is to balance your body, there are no long-term negative side effects. On the contrary, relaxation and a sense of well-being often occur during and after treatment. Often patients become so relaxed that they sleep during treatment.

HOW SHOULD I EXPECT TO FEEL AFTER THE TREATMENT?

HOW FREQUENTLY SHOULD I BE GETTING TREATMENTS?

You may notice relief of your health concern in the hours or days following your session or it may take several sessions to experience a change.  In the majority of cases, a clear benefit is evident within 3-4 sessions (although more sessions may be required to thoroughly resolve the problem).

In most instances, weekly treatment for four to six weeks will be recommended, but in some cases more frequent treatment is helpful.  You will be given more detailed information about the projected course of treatment for your condition at your appointment.  It is my goal to wrap up your treatment as quickly as possible – you will not be pressured to continue coming for treatment indefinitely.

You can return to work or your regular responsibilities after your treatment, but it is best to avoid heavy physical exertion and other forms of body work (massage, chiropractic, or yoga) for 12-18 hours after your acupuncture session.

In less than 5% of cases, patients experience an aggravation of symptoms for 24-48 hours following a treatment.  This is a good sign that the treatment is working and is almost always followed by significant improvement.  This type of healing reaction is more likely to occur in sensitive, intuitive, or highly strung people; in people with a history of emotional, physical, or sexual abuse; and/or in individuals who are in the habit of “stuffing” negative emotions.  If any of these factors are applicable to you, please alert me so that I can approach your treatment with particular sensitivity (you will not be asked to reveal or discuss details of this aspect of your history unless you wish to do so).
